1. Can an overseas merchant accept payments from Indian customers without an Indian entity?
Yes, eligible overseas merchants can accept payments from Indian customers through Pine Labs PA-CB Import Payments without setting up a local Indian entity, subject to onboarding, business eligibility, regulatory checks, and AD bank requirements.
2. Will the Indian customer pay in INR?
Yes, the customer will be shown amount in INR and payment will be collected in INR.
3. Where will the merchant receive settlement?
The overseas merchant receives settlement into its approved foreign bank account after successful payment processing, compliance checks, and AD bank settlement processing.
4. Is there a transaction limit?
Yes. RBI’s 2025 PA Directions state that for inward or outward transactions processed by a PA-CB, the maximum value per transaction is ₹25 lakh. Reserve Bank of India
5. What is LRS and which transaction categories fall under LRS?
The Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) is a regulatory framework introduced by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) that allows resident Indian individuals to remit money abroad for permitted transactions, subject to applicable regulatory limits, compliance checks, and reporting requirements.
For PA-CB Import transactions, the applicability of LRS depends on the nature of the underlying transaction and the corresponding approved purpose code. Common LRS categories include:

This category covers eligible overseas education-related payments, including:
- Tuition fees
- Hostel or accommodation fees
- Other approved education expenses
Purpose Code: S0305 — Travel for education
Travel
This category covers eligible overseas travel-related payments, including:
- International flight bookings
- Hotel bookings
- Other approved travel expenses
Purpose Code: The applicable purpose code depends on the specific travel use case and may include S0302, S0306, or other approved travel-related purpose codes.
For all PA-CB Import transactions, the transaction category and purpose code must align with the applicable LRS requirements and regulatory guidelines.
6. What documents are required for processing import payments?
For all import payment transactions, invoice details are mandatory. The invoice number is required for settlement initiation and must be provided for every successful transaction.
For physical goods import transactions, AWB (Air Waybill) details or the AWB document are also mandatory and must be submitted along with the invoice details to support compliance and settlement processing.
